MOOG delivers customized Under bridge Unit MBI 180 to Romania
Bucharest Highway – Constanta
The Joint Venture of Max Bögl – Astaldi S.p.A. has ordered a customized under-bridge unit from MOOG for work on bridges on the new highway from Bucharest to Constanta and in particular the section Medgidia – Constanta which was the JV’s part of contract. The biggest challenge for MOOG in this project, was to design a machine that will fit on bridge No. 20 over the Danube – Black Sea Channel as a lowering depth of more than 39 ft. 5 in. was required for the arch’s end section at the pylons. At the same point it is necessary to reach up 29 ft. 7 in. from the end of the platform to inspect the areas behind the girders. The solution was a modification of MOOG’s existing MBI 180 trailer mounted unit, on which a tower extension was installed to allow reaching 42 ft. 8 in. of lowering depth. Furthermore, the 59 ft. 1 in. long and 5 ft. 7 in. wide platform with a payload of 1,760 lbs., allowed the installation of a hydraulic lift that can reach up 29 ft. 7 in. and thus enables the operators to work at a height of 36 ft. 1 in. on the end of the platform.
As the unit was not only ordered to serve as an access for inspection but also later on to complete repair work, MOOG installed a hydraulic crane on the trailer which allows the ever so easy moving of material or tools down to the platform instead of getting there through the access tower.
Like all trailer mounted units from MOOG the machine is equipped with a Diesel Generator that delivers power for the hydraulic system, as well as the power supply for the electrical sockets on the platform. For emergency situations a petrol engine and a second hydraulic pump are installed. Stabilizers – are provided by standard truck axles – and the appropriate amount of counter weight to secure the stability of the machine in all positions. A hydraulic creep speed enables the smooth movement of the machine during operation and includes a steering function.
