The State of NEW YORK expands its MOOG fleet with another four MBL 1600 basket machines
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) continues to rely on under‐bridge access technology from MOOG. The previous MOOG fleet onsite in New York includes 10 x platform units model MBI 110 in trailer version and 4 x basket units model MBL 1600T on truck chassis. These were supplemented by an additional four basket units ‐ model MBL 1600T. Two machines were shipped to the USA in September 2021, the other two followed in November 2022.
The proven and flexible basket units of the MBL 1600T were mounted on truck chassis from the USA INTERNATIONAL brand, which were shipped from the USA to MOOG in Germany for assembly and adaptation work.
With a lowering depth of 57 ft. 4 in. and a horizontal reach under the bridge of up to 52 ft. 5. in., a working height of up to 65 ft. 7 in. can also be achieved. The MOOG MBL 1600 can not be used to inspect the underside of bridges only, but also steel cables (for cable bridges) or, for example, to replace the bulbs on tall street lamps. The machine can be moved from the basket into any working position with the smooth‐moving creep speed.
The two rotation ranges of the under‐bridge access unit – 270° is located on the rotating turret and on the other one 180° located on basket boom – enable extremely flexible application possibilities for the machine, especially when inspecting truss bridges.
In addition to all these technical highlights, the basket machines also stand out because they are mounted on an American “truck”. The typical American truck cabs are quite unusual for Europeans and make the delivered machines something very special to see, at least while they were at MOOG in Germany.
