MBI 50, MBI 70 and MBI 110 to Denmark
Three different unit models were delivered to BMS A/S, a longtime customer of MOOG who is located in Denmark. These units had working ranges from 16 ft. 5 in. up to 36 ft. 1 in. under the bridge.
The smallest of the three delivered under-bridge units was previewed at the BAUMA exhibition in Munich in April this year and was handed over to the customer afterwards: It was a MBI 50-1/SR mounted on a crawler chassis. This unit is ideal for operation on a narrow sidewalk, pedestrian bridges or sidewalks with low load capacity restrictions. Its total weight of 6,600 lbs is equally distributed on both crawler tracks and the transport height of nearly 9 ft. 6 in. allows standard transport on a common car trailer. With a transport width of 5 ft. 3 in., a horizontal range under the bridge of 16 ft. 5 in. and a lowering depth of 13 ft. 1 in. this machine is very functional – but with help of the following optional equipment ordered by the customer, it is even more versatile:
The special erection function (excavator erection) enables erection of the unit between e.g. catenaries in railway areas or on truss bridges. With this function the platform can be rotated 90° before setting up the tower and can then be placed into the bridge construction. The unit was delivered with a remote control which enables a better overview of the work area – particularly for those areas which are hard to see – and provides the user the necessary mobility by operating the unit with a wireless control. A scaffold which enables access to the top completes the optional equipment added to this unit.
The next under-bridge unit handed over to BMS in May was a MBI 70-1/S mounted on an IVECO chassis. The machine has a maximum horizontal working range of 22 ft. 11 in. under the bridge, which can be extended by a platform extension giving the unit up to 26 ft. 3 in. of working range under the bridge. The overall weight is 13,200 lbs. In keeping with the customers’ request the unit was equipped with a steel ring, which lifts the upper structure and thereby enables a wider crossing over of sound barriers. The customer also requested an additional camera system to be installed on the unit. Finally, a scaffold on the platform enables the access to e.g. box girders.
The largest of the three delivered platform units was handed over to the customer in January 2016: A MBI 110-1,2/S mounted on a MAN chassis. This machine has a maximum horizontal range of up to 42 ft. 8 in. under the bridge (36 ft. 1 in. standard without using the 6 ft. 6 in. platform extension ordered with this unit). It was also equipped with a steel ring for wider crossing over of sound barriers of up to 9 ft. 2 in. In addition a telescopic rotation frame was installed, which enables a wider sidewalk clearance of up to 10 ft. 10 in. The customer also requested the installation of the excavator erection and a remote control for this unit. A scaffold with 5 ft. 7 in. standing height and the installation of night lighting completed the special equipment added to this unit making this machine very versatile on a job site.
All three units are currently operating in Denmark.
