For the first time MOOG is delivering a customized MDA 24 trailer to the German Railway
In 2011 MOOG received an order from DB Netz AG (German Railway) for two customized under-bridge units for the viaducts of the ICE high-speed railway. MOOG had already produced comparable units for DB in 1987. These units are still working today, but do not work with all of the viaducts.
In 2012 MOOG got the additional order to design and produce 2 suitable trailers for safe transportation from site to site of the already ordered under-bridge units.
The special challenge for MOOG was to design and produce a trailer that was able to transport the units which were overlength safely, and able to load and unload in rugged areas without incident. MOOG designed two turn-able draw bar trailers (MDA) with the measurements 39’4″ x 8’2″ x 2’11” (length x width x height) and a maximum allowable weight of 52,800 lbs.

The MOOG trailer model MDA 24 has an overall weight of 15,840 lbs and is the standard version.
The MOOG trailer type MDA 24 AH has an overall weight of 16,280 lbs and is equipped with some special options:
The overall length of 39 ft. 4 in. can be increased by 7 ft. 2 in. with help of an extendable rear and in addition up to 1 ft. 11 in. with help of an extendable tongue. With these options large loads are possible.
To enable safe loading and unloading even if there are sloping areas, both types of trailers are equipped with 4 stabilizer cylinders mounted on the chassis. These cylinders allow the trailers to be positioned horizontally to load/unload the units even on rough terrain sites. To move out/retract the cylinders without any effort, the trailers have their own system that supports the hydraulic system. The system can also be supported by the truck as well.
As these trailers were mainly produced for the transportation of the units ordered by the DB Netz AG, the chassis are equipped with special load restraint assemblies. Additionally, the trailers have GPS-navigation equipment installed corresponding to the customers wish. With help of this equipment previously driven routes can be reconstructed and it is possible to locate the trailer in case of theft.
