Successful test run of the new crawler-mounted MBI 50
MOOG is proud to announce its newest engineering design development was tested with great success:
A small Bridge Inspection Unit was crawler-mounted with a low payload. It was a conceptual design for operations on a narrow sidewalk, cycle-way bridges, or sidewalks with low load capacity restrictions. Space required on the bridge is only 5 ft. 2 in. and a maximum point load of 70 kN/m² this unit is “underbidding” all comparable units on the market.
The total load of 6,600 pounds is equally distributed on both crawler tracks, so that the pressure per square inch during operation is minimal.
A transport height of nearly 9 ft. 6 in. allows for standard transport on a common car trailer – meaning the maximum trailer load of 7,700 pounds will not be exceeded.
The upper structure is also designed with compactness as another plus to the unit: In transport position the working platform is stored smartly around the tower to keep the width down to 5 ft. 2 in. Most requirements for low capacity bridges are met sufficiently with a horizontal working range of 16 ft. 4 in. under the bridge, a 660 pounds working load on the platform and a lowering depth of 13 ft. 1 in. during operation. An additional portable scaffold completes the overall scope of the equipment: Different installation variations allow the platform to be rotated under narrow bridges too. A 12 kVA diesel generator provides the necessary power for the electric pump and the electrical sockets located on the platform.
To allow their customers to get to know and experience this new technology this prototype unit will be hired out by MOOG to interested customers.
