MOOG delivers the first under-bridge unit to Tanzania
MOOG has once again won a bid against its competitors and received an order from the Road Service of Tanzania. The acceptance test of the customized under-bridge unit model MBL 1200 T by two engineers from Tanzania took place on the18th of June 2013, at the MOOG factory. This special order even made the local news.
MOOG’s presidents Mrs. Rita Moog and Mrs. Christine Moog are very happy about this first time order to the Tanzania market. This unit will be located and used in the Lake Victoria area in Tanzania, which is the largest lake in Africa and the third largest lake worldwide. The unit was shipped to Tanzania mid July 2013.
Per the customer’s requirements, the machine has a horizontal range of 12 m and an over-bridging of sidewalks up to 3.8 m. This over-bridging can be achieved by a moving carrier plate, which helps make it possible to move the upper structure. With a lowering depth of 15.5 m and a working height of 16 m the unit can be used as an aerial platform as well. The vehicle complies with the Tanzanian Regulations regarding axle loads, overall weight and all other maximum measurements.
The bucket of the unit is 1.25 x 1.25 m big and has a maximum load of 280 kg. Additionally, it is equipped with and supported by a Deutz diesel generator so it is possible to use electrical tools while working in the bucket. The boom rotation area of 180° allows for erection from either side of the unit of up to 230 sqm and provides for the highest flexibility.
Handling and operating the unit is very easy because of the clear arrangement of the operating controls. For work in the dark the boom and the operating controls are equipped with night lights to enable safe access and use of the unit. Furthermore, the Tanzanian unit is equipped with an additional platform mounted to the bucket arm. With help of this platform little repair work can be done much easier. Telescoping of the boom is locked out if using the additional platform and also the payload inside the bucket is reduced to 100 kg. The payload of the platform is 200 kg.
The drivers of our customer TAN Roads as well as drivers of SCANIA Tanzania were trained to operate and maintain the unit in a training session in January 2014. The training took place at the facilities of the Tanzanian customer and was conducted by an expert MOOG employee.
